Review: Lethed (A Guardian of the Angels Novel) by Anyta Sunday

Blurb:

Sylva Lark made her choice.

Now she has to adjust to Guardian life. Training. Killing demons. Controlling her powers.

If only giving up her family wouldn’t hurt so damn much, . . . and if there wasn’t a strange attraction to the betrothed Prince Atticus she just met . . .

Amongst murder and mayhem, and toeing an unclear line between right and wrong, Sylva and her fellow Guardians must find a way to secure Eirene.

But it’s not easy going up against underworld Queen Furie when those on Sylva’s side are hiding secrets . . .

Will they succeed in protecting the home of the angels? Or will they fail, submitting the heavens to the fate of Furie?

And will Sylva and Attic ever remember what they mean to each other?

Or will they stay forever Lethed?

I was so excited to read this book after the first one!  So, the story continues with Sylva after being lethed.  She continues her training as a Guardian without remembering anything about Attic.  She still struggles with letting her human family go, and ends up stealing her cat from them!  You understand why-she just wanted to keep a piece of her human life.

Then, she and her group of Guardians are invited to the main Guardians’ home in DC to attend the engagement announcement of the prince.  Sylva has no memory of Attic, so she doesn’t have a problem attending the event.

She and Alyse are not on the best of terms but working a way to get along.  You really start understanding the behaviors of the secondary characters more in this book.  Sylva meets Dash while at the event and they sort of hit it off.  She meets the Queen, who dislikes Sylva from the beginning.  As the reader, you know why.  As Sylva, she has no clue.

This story involves more of the relationship between Attic and Sylva, and they learned they have been lethed.  Jason is a continued character in this novel, and you still question whether or not he is on the good side or the bad side.  I have a feeling where things are headed for him, but not going to give that away.

The Queen makes things very clear to Sylva, that if she ever tries to have a relationship with Attic, they will be considered Rogue and hunted.  Is love worth it?  What does Sylva and Attic decide to do?

Oh, and Marcus is still struggling with his demon side.  I enjoyed his story in this too. Anyta Sunday does a wonderful job pulling you in with the characters and struggling with them throughout the book.  This one was shorter than the first, and I would have liked a little more from it, but overall was a very good book!  I cannot wait to see what happens, but I guess I will!!!  The next book doesn’t come out until 2014 😦

I give this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars!!

Review: Veined (A Guardian of the Angels Novel) by Anyta Sunday

Blurb:

It could be worse for Sylva Lark. She could be dead. A coma was nothing to that. Or her family moving across country for the treatment, leaving her with a big blue mark on her back.
She can handle it.
Mostly.
Except the mark glows and tingles, especially whenever transition helper Atticus Plot (Attic) is close by. She suspects he’s hiding something, and when she stumbles across a torn body bearing the same spiral marking as her own, that suspicion is confirmed.
After a few shaves with death, the truth finally comes out and the battles begin.
But not all her fights are external; her biggest one is the decision she has to make between doing the right thing for the world and giving up her beloved family for good.

This was a re-read for me because the second in the series came out just a couple of days ago.  Sylva is a teenager who got into a bad accident and wakes up in a hospital after coming out of a coma.  That’s when things start getting strange for her.

She wakes with a mark that she thinks is from an experimental treatment.  It’s like a tattoo but glows at times.  I’m going to give a little bit away in this review, but not much.  She is told by her family that they moved from their home for this really good doctor to help her get better.  She starts a new school and the doctor set up a “buddy” to help her get settled in.  Her “buddy” is Attic.

She notices some strange things going on, then she Phoenixed.  That means she became a Guardian of the Angels to help protect Eirene, basically Heaven, from demons.  The other Guardians in her location lethe her family, making them forget they had a daughter.  Her world has changed and she has to leave her family to live with these Guardians to train.  Attic is her main trainer and their growing attraction to each other starts to get in the way.

Sylva then realizes she has a choice- she can go back to being human and live with her family again.  Some situations arise that make her contemplate that decision.  I’m not going to give any more away with the book.  You’ll have to read it to figure out- did she choose to become a Guardian?  What is Attic’s secret?  Oh, the ending is fabulous!  A cliff-hanger!  But now the second book is out, so if you don’t like cliffhangers it’s okay!

I really enjoyed the writing style, the character development, and the editing was done very well.  I have a thing for angels, and while this isn’t really about angels, I still loved it!

I give it 5 out of 5 stars!!!  It’s only .99 at Amazon.com.  I highly recommend reading it!
